Hello everyone,
Right now I'm back in Australia and I must say New Zealnd was so damn great! So after our first week in NZ we reached the southern island and directly started with Kaikoura, where we saw a seal colony along the coast.
On the same day we made our way down to Christchurch, where we stayed the night. Christchurch was actually not really interesting but we had a nice evening with Scrabble when we met Lara and Annemoon again.
The next day we drove down to Dunedin and stopped at the Moeraki Boulders, round stones (:D) yeah their special beause they are round
In Dunedin we've seen Blue Eyed Penguins, have been on a huge market and there is the steepest road in the world! We drove it up and down two times and I can say: It definitely is steep.
Kirks Lemonade is goody >(
After that we drove down to the very south, where almost nobody lives. But there is a lot to do though. At the Nugget point we had a great lookout
and the walk to Jack's Blowhole, which is a huge hole in the ground where sea water comes in through a tunnel, was scenic as well
From there we reached the Catlins, where the Cathedral Cave is, and Yellow Eyed Penguins breed, which are the rarest in the world.
Cheesyy.
All this in one day!
We had to rush because we booked a cruise on the Milford Sound for the next day which are another 400 kms away. By the way we drove already 4000 kms in just one and a half weeks of NZ :O
The cruise on the next day was awesome and I got 20 Espresso for free :D
We saw dolphins and another seal colony! and the views were some of the best we had so far.
In the afternoon we reached Queenstown, which is definitely the best Town for Backpackers in NZ. A beautiful lake, heaps of chilled peple, good partying and a wounderful city.
The Highlight was my Bungy Jump which was by far the craziest thing I ever did. Best feelings in my life!
After that, Sven and me really needed a Fergberger - the best burger in the world!
On our last day we enjoyed the beautiful lake and the view from Queenstown Hill
Next stop: Lake Wanaka. Another postcard lake surrounded by Mountains and Glaciers including the Rob's Roy Glacier.
A funny thing: We randomly met three guys who were travelling wit Tom before :D how small the world is
On the next day we drove up the West coast to see the Foxglacier and the Franz Josef Glacier. The weather was not the best but the Glaciers were impressive anyway.
On the same day we arrived at the Pancake Rocks and had a beautiful sunset there. SO much in one day again.
Sadly we haven't seen a Kiwi yet but when we drove further up to the north we thought we would have run over our first Kiwi but luckily it was just a Bush Turkey :D On the next morning we had a look at the huge Oparara Limestone Arches. Limestone actually doesn't taste like Limes which was a little disappointing for me :(
In the afternoon we made our way up to the Abel Tasman National Park where we were Skydiving! Hell yeah. Unfortunately I don't have pictures because I'm a backpacker and had to save the 200$ extra costs but I can tell you it was a dream of a day!
The next two days were crazy: We walked the Abel Tasman Track, that is 54 km long and is supposed to be walked in 4 days, in just one and a half days. In the end it wasn't that much fun but it was a good experience and scenery was nice although it rained a lot. The night on the track was one of my worst as we had no mattresses and there was a mouse in our tent! Yes a mouse. And it was smarter than Sven and me so after 2 hours of hard fighting we finally gave up and let it eat or Muesli Bars :(
A tractor brought our water taxi from the port to the drop off :D
At least we had a great night in Nelson at Paradiso Hostel with Sauna, Whirlpool, Pancakes and warm beds :)
The next morning we arrived in Picton and swam with dolphins although it was more watching than swimming because unfortunately the dolphins didn't wanna play. The cruise through the Marlborough Sounds and the Dolphin watching were good though.
I wish we had more time on the southern island but I have seen so many things in two weeks that it feels like it has been a whole month. We have six days left in NZ now and relaxing a little will be good for us. As good as Mayonnaise.
I know this was a long blog so probz if you made it to this point.
My advice at the end: Go to New Zealand. It's the dream.
